I know this is supposed to be a culinary blog,  but I was so excited by this simple yet clever idea that I just HAD to share it. Then came the idea of a DIY section, and this is hopefully the first of many more such cute DIYs.  Their  soft, romantic glow combined with the aromatic orange smell, make them a wonderful addition to any dinner parties.

You will need:

  • Orange
  • Oil
  • Wick
  • spoon
  • Knife
  • A sewing needle
  • Matches

How to:

  • Carefully cut the orange into two equal halves with the knife.
  • Gently scoop out the flesh with help of the spoon.
  • Let the peel dry overnight so that all the moisture is gone.
  • Dip the end of the wick in a little oil so that we can thin it out. Slowly thread the wick through the needle. Pierce the orange from below, making the smallest hole possible. Pull the needle and wick from the bottom of the peel, so that wick comes up.
  • Fill the orange with some oil. Submerge the tip of the wick in some oil.
  • Your candle is now ready to be lit!

P.S: Don’t leave the candle unattended while burning!
